Stay on Topic and Be Respectful

We encourage the contribution of comments, critiques, questions, and suggestions to our social media content, but we ask that you stay on topic, respect other people’s ideas and opinions, and refrain from offensive language, profanity, illegal content, and anything else that may violate our community guidelines. We will not tolerate and reserve the right to hide or delete posts or comments that (and block or ban users/followers who continually): include an insult, threat, harassment, or language that is discriminatory, racist, homophobic, sexist, xenophobic, defamatory, or vulgar encourage or suggest illegal activity include personal information that is unsafe to share on a public forum, such as a phone number, address or ID number include unintelligible or irrelevant content promote an event, product or service unrelated to UC Santa Barbara.

Your Participation is Public

It is important to remember that UC Santa Barbara’s social media channels are public, as are the discussions that take place in them. When you post in any of our social media channels, your name, likeness, and social media handle will be visible and associated with your content. Posts and comments can be indexed and discovered by search engines, so please do not post or comment on our channels anything that you would not want others to know. Additionally, we may use your posts on our social media channels for other purposes such as in email and print communications, on website pages, and in our other social media channels. If we re-use your post elsewhere, we may also display your name, likeness, and handle.

Responsibility

UC Santa Barbara is not responsible or liable for any damages that may occur while you are engaging with our channels. You must comply with the terms and conditions of each specific social media platform.

Moderation and Response

We make an effort to read all posts, comments, and direct messages. While our accounts are continuously monitored, responses will generally be sent Monday through Friday between 9 am and 5 pm Pacific.
